She Loves Data LA: Introduction to Python

Heard the buzz about data? Curious about code? Join us for a free, two hour, hands-on Introduction to Python workshop as the first of our two-part Weekend Python series.
She Loves Data has been inspiring women all over the world to pursue a career in data and technology. Together with Sarah Nooravi from SNAP, we’re excited to bring you this workshop where you can take your first leap into an exciting future career or fine tune your data analysis and visualization skills.
Python is one of the most popular and employable programming languages in the world, and it’s increasingly becoming the preferred language of data analysts and scientists everywhere. It’s powerful, flexible, and well-supported, making it a great first language for beginners.
Agenda:
In this workshop, you will learn:
a) Introduction to Python as a programming language
b) The basics of programming using Python: data types, variables, conditions, functions, etc.
c) Simple Data Visualizations
Our remote workshop is open to women. You don’t need any prior experience in programming or data – just a laptop, a stable internet connection, and enthusiasm to learn!
For setup, make sure you’ve got:
– A laptop with a charger (Mac or Windows, we don’t mind).
– A web browser (Chrome/Firefox/Safari)
– Zoom. (A pair of headphones or a headset would also be preferable.)
Instructor
Sarah Nooravi : Sarah is a Sr. Financial Analyst at Snap Inc. with over 4 years of experience in the field of Data Science and Analytics. With a focus in marketing analytics, she has a history of delivering innovative marketing tools to help drive better business decisions in the entertainment, social media and gaming industries.
She is also passionate about teaching and giving back to the community. In that spirit, she has coordinated and led monthly Machine Learning workshops, taught a Data Visualization course through USC Viterbi School of Engineering, and mentored women in Data Science and Engineering through organizations like: GLAD Mentorship, Society of Women Engineers, Women in Big Data, and She Loves Data. These activities support a core motivation for Sarah: helping set up others for success in industry.

A. Yes! Participation is free, but slots are limited, so please register early!
Q. I’m based outside of Los Angeles. Can I still join?
A. Absolutely! You can join from any part of the world.
Q. Is it only for women?
A. This online workshop is open to all professional women. We are working on having a #HeLovesData workshop as well soon 🙂
Q. What if something comes up and I need to retract my registration?
A. Please be considerate and let us know if you won’t be able to attend the online meetup a day in advance, so we can offer your place to somebody else.
