She Loves Data Announces Partnership with Alteryx for Good
Singapore – She Loves Data (SLD) is proud to be partnering with Alteryx, a leading analytics automation platform headquartered in the US, to drive innovation and foster business impact with inclusion and diversity in the world of data analytics.
This partnership was kicked off by an in-person event that took place at the Alteryx office in Sydney, Australia. This event included a panel discussion moderated by Eva Taase, ANZ Region Lead and Global Head of Analytics at She Loves Data. The panel discussion brought together inspiring women in the tech industry including Heidi Badgery, Alteryx ANZ Managing Director, , Jana Marle-Zizkova, Co-founder & CEO Meiro & SheLovesData & Lynette Corcoran, Aitealium Co-Founder. The focus of the discussion included a journey into these women’s non-linear career experiences, insights, and sharing of valuable advice on how to build a successful career in tech while empowering more women to step into this field.

Amongst some key takeaways from the event were how data can be an equalizer among genders, and underrepresented groups can leverage data to be heard and have a voice at the table Jana Marle-Zizkova shared with the audience how she has raised her hand multiple times to do diverse roles in her career by stepping out of her comfort zone and not letting the fear of the unknown overpower her decisions, focusing on the notion that authenticity combined with boldness creates opportunity for growth. Lynette Corcoran, a true evangelist for data and analytics, narrated her career journey where she had made data her friend, and she believes that “Data is a women’s best friend, as no one can argue with data.” Heidi Badgery cited that one of the best pieces of advice she has ever received in her career is “dress for the job you want” meaning to always show up as your best self, and the importance of showing the readiness to take responsibility and the seriousness you have in being successful.
She Loves Data and Alteryx’s partnership is based on the shared mission to reduce the diversity gap that exists in the world of data analytics. Alex Robinson, Alteryx for Good Program Manager, Asia-Pacific and Japan at Alteryx said, “Our common goal ensures that the partnership is mutually beneficial. The partnership model that Alteryx prefers to use; trust-based philanthropy, works best when both parties are as aligned as Alteryx and She Loves Data are. Together we can inspire, empower and equip members of our community to succeed in the world of data analytics. At Alteryx, through our Social Impact arm Alteryx for Good, we partner with organisations that are aligned to our mission of analytics for all, and one of our 5 core pillars; health, basic needs, sustainability, education and workforce development. She Loves Data is doing phenomenal things in the workforce development space, providing upskilling and networking opportunities as well as empowering their members. Alteryx is thrilled to be able to partner with She Loves Data to inspire and empower even more people around the world, and drive positive progress in society”
Jana Marle-Zizkova, said, “We are thrilled to join forces with leaders in data fields like Alteryx to help upskill more women. There is an increase in demand for the digital and tech workforce and if we can equip more women with the right skills via specialised training, we can get a step closer to bridging the gender equality gap.”
Eva Taase, agreed, noting that “Partnerships are the cornerstone of progress, and we are delighted to celebrate our partnership with Alteryx, a company that shares our values of equity and inclusion. At Alteryx, they don’t just talk about creating a level playing field, they actively invest in uplifting marginalized populations and intentionally foster a community of inclusivity. Together, we can drive change and empower underrepresented communities in the world of data.”
Alteryx has long been a force for change, having established a social impact division, Alteryx for Good in 2016. Alteryx for Good leads the company’s philanthropy, volunteering, ESG & sustainability, and diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives. Some of the impactful work in the space of social change that Alteryx for Good is driving includes addressing gender diversity internally within the organization through initiatives such as supporting employee’s non-traditional career pathways, a women’s executive mentoring program, and returnship program for those returning to the workforce after a career break. Alteryx is also working to improve diversity externally, via volunteering, philanthropy, a no cost data analytics program for Career Changers, and by developing innovative products such as a pay equity analysis tool to address the pressing issue of gender pay inequity. Together as a partner with She Loves Data, the opportunity to empower underrepresented communities will serve to create a more diverse and inclusive data industry.
She Loves Data has an expanding network in 18 countries across 4 continents supported by 160+ volunteers. Through partners like Alteryx, She Loves Data envisions to upskill and empower more women in order to democratize data analytics. By providing women with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed, She Loves Data can help women achieve their goals and improve their lives. At the same time, by connecting women with each other and building strong networks, partnerships like Alteryx and She Loves Data create a supportive environment where members can share experiences, learn from each other, and lift each other up.

When we shine our lights together, we make the world a brighter place
I received Michelle Obama’s latest book, “The Light We Carry”, over the holiday season as a gift. In addition to it being yet another engaging read about her life growing up and as the First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama shared some advice and powerful strategies for staying hopeful and balanced in the highly uncertain world we live in today.
One part of the blurb on the back cover of the book particularly struck me. “One light feeds another. One strong family lends strength to more. One engaged community can ignite those around it. This is the power of the light we carry.”
It got me thinking about my experience as a volunteer with She Loves Data, and our organization’s impact.
Over the past year since I joined She Loves Data in March 2022, I continue to be amazed at how the organization continues to find both creative and meaningful ways to enable more women in the technology and data space, despite being a largely volunteer-run organization.
One of which is how She Loves Data collaborates with our sister organizations to amplify and multiply the impact we can deliver to the communities we serve…together.
In India, for example, we are collaborating with VMware’s VMinclusion Taara program, in which we offer women on a career break with the opportunity to learn and take advantage of all programs offered by She Loves Data, in addition to the courses offered by VMinclusion Taara. Since its launch in 2019, VMinclusion Taara has risen to be one of India’s leading upskilling programs for women looking to re-start their career, with over 22,000 women benefiting from its free upskilling and certification courses in digital transformation technologies such as Cloud, Network and Security, and Data Centre technologies.
In Singapore, we’ve joined forces with CodingGirls to deliver Code with Cloud to our community, which provides course participants with knowledge and skill sets on data analysis and visualization using Google Cloud. We’re proud to have celebrated the graduation of the program’s latest cohort from the 2022 program, which saw 98 women being selected for the on-demand program.
In addition to our past collaborations SheLovesTech and Girls in Tech in Singapore, these are just some examples of how we are harnessing the multiplier effect of our respective communities to ultimately benefit everyone we serve.
It’s great to see how as an organization, we do not shy away from supporting other organizations in our space. Ultimately, we know that we are not the only ones with the mission of empowering women in the technology field, and that we are not doing this alone. It reminds me of a quote I read in Melinda French-Gates’ book, Moment on Lift, in which she wrote: “We all want to have something to offer. This is how we belong. It’s how we feel included. So if we want to include everyone, then we have to help everyone develop their talents and use their gifts for the good of the community. That’s what inclusion means—everyone is a contributor. And if they need help to become a contributor, then we should help them, because they are full members in a community that supports everyone.”
Because when we shine our lights together, we make the world a brighter place.
Our volunteers are our beating hearts
I won’t lie. When She Loves Data was founded in 2016 as a non-profit organization, one of the things I was concerned about was whether we would be able to sustain it. Being a non-profit organization comes with its own set of challenges and limitations, and one of the more obvious ones is around resourcing. Yet, equipped with passion and our entrepreneurial mindset of “you won’t know until you try it” and support of our partners, was what was helping us throughout the years
One hackathon and training led to another. Word got out that we were looking for like-minded and passionate people to join us as volunteers. We began recruiting our pioneering team of volunteers, and over the years, our global #datatribe has grown to around 180 volunteers strong.
And our volunteers truly are the beating hearts of our organization.
Even on the most challenging times, our volunteers displayed impressive dedication and commitment to drive our programs and serve our community. Many are juggling multiple commitments – from their own full-time jobs, to passion projects and families. Despite this, their unwavering passion to lift other women and to our mission as an organization continue to shine through.
We recently recognized some of our best talents through a Volunteer Awards, where we shone a spotlight on our volunteers who had gone above and beyond their call of duty. I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank these volunteers for all that they have done for the She Loves Data community this year. We could not pursue our mission without you! Please join me in congratulating these winners as we recognize their contributions to our organization – these winners have been recognized by their peers through votes put forward by our team of fellow volunteers.
